i see it
and yes as eric says 'surely a sign of spring' and so perhaps we don't need the first line to tell us so - the last two showing us
i'm perhaps splitting hairs :)
but this does have a feel of tell more than show - i think it might be the use of 'sign' - that pushes it that way - i see that some kind of spring kigo might be useful for those not familliar with little league culture - but something less directed eg (just for illustration)
